Malay cuisine is a fusion of flavours and cultures. This series explores region and cultural specialties of Malaysia.

Book Class

Cindy was born in small town in Ipoh, Malaysia into a local Chinese Malaysian family. Once a booming mining town during the British colonial era, today, Ipoh is best known for its hawker fare and unique local dishes which are hard to find anywhere else in Malaysia.

The regional cuisine of Malaysia is as diverse as it’s geography, the traditional flavours and ingredients changing from village to village and city to city. . In this installation of My Malay Heart we will explore the unique cuisine of Kelantan.

Kelantan is a conservative rural state, bordering Thailand and home to the the Malay palaces. Due to its close proximity to Southern Thailand, the food is influenced by Thai culture and flavours.

Cindy spent a great part of her childhood in Kelantan and the recipes she will be sharing in this class are her favourites, cooked and taught to her by her nanny.  Come along for seafood stuffed chilies, Chicken in red spicy sauce, herb rice, herb salad and a sweetly morish sweet potato desert, Cek Mek Molek.
