'Bread is Life’ -  In Egypt the word for bread is ‘khobz’ but the word for local bread is ‘aish baladi’ - ‘Aish’ is literally ‘Life’  and what could be more local than bread made in your own kitchen? Bread has kept most of the population alive for most of history 

Bread is Alive! Harnessing the leavening power of yeast, whether commercial or via natural sourdough is to work with a living thing. Peer into your mixing bowl,  there’s life in there. It’s moving, breathing, growing with plucky communities of yeast and bacteria.

Simple, delicious, fulfilling and a vehicle for any and all kinds of ingredients and flavour combinations bread is truely one of Mich’s favourite foods to cook.

Join Mich for a morning of kneading and proving as she teaches youth make Polenta smothered english muffins, chewy sourdough fougasse, homemade poppyseed lavash, fennel and buttermilk spelt loaf and cheesy pancetta cornbread. 

When all is baked and sliced, join around the String + Salt table for a delicious lunch of warm bread and fresh seasonal produce, housemade cheese and charcuterie!
