Looking for a unique way to celebrate your next important occasion?

String + Salt offers private classes for groups of between 8 and 20 people. Select your topic for a hands-on group learning experience in our kitchen. In each class you’ll work together with one of String + Salt's resident presenters to prepare a feast for all to share at our String + Salt table.

We have plenty of Friday and Saturday dates available in November and December for your work or organisation Christmas party.

Private Cooking Class Details

  • All classes are held at String + Salt in Warragul.

  • Classes are for between 8 to 20 people.

  • Classes include hands-on learning, recipes + notes, food prepared in the class and refreshments.

  • Bookings are subject to availability of dates and presenters.

  • Classes are priced at $100 per person.

  • Deposit of 20% is payable upon confirmation. Balance is due 5 days prior to the class.

  • Please note: some dietary requirements may not be able to be catered for in some class options. Please advise on any known dietary requirements at the time of reservation.

Malay Cultural Pot

with Cindy Powell

Malaysia is a land of delicious delicacies and each geographical terrain has its unique cuisine with numerous variations and flavours.

In this class you will explore some of Cindy's favourite dishes from her childhood including Sambal Prawns
Kelantan Grilled Chicken and a traditional Banana and Coconut Milk dessert.

My Turkish Table

with Michelle Cann

A cultural and vocational exchange to Turkey a few years back left an indelible impression on Michelle.  Experiencing Turkish hospitality first hand, she spent time cooking with her hosts, and noting down recipes and menu items at every stop.

Michelle loves nothing more than preparing massive feasts inspired by her travels for her friends and family, and My Turkish Table is hosted in this spirit.

Festive Italian

What better way to celebrate than with a hearty, tasty Italian feast.

In class you'll learn the tricks of crispy, juicy porchetta, hand-make your own orecchiette and delicious chocolate + hazelnut tortes.

A class for everyone can get involved in, no matter what level of cooking skill and passion they have. 

My Thai Favourites

with Ying Flowers

Ying grew up in Bangkok at the skirt of her mother who ran a small restaurant from the front of her house. Helping after school in the restaurant, Ying liked nothing more than getting into the kitchen and asking lots of questions.

Ying is passionate about sharing the authentic flavours of Thailand using fresh whole ingredients, but she is also in possession of a deliciously daggy sense of humour ensuring everyone who attends her classes leave with a full belly and a big smile. 

Modern Festive Feast

Celebrate the season with Christmas feast that is truly modern Australia. Bringing together flavours from all around the world, this amazing, tasty and colourful Christmas Feast is sure to please everyone.

Michelle will show you some of her favourite recipes using seasonal fresh produce including juniper + orange gravlax, jerk turkey, ginger, cider + miso pork belly, grilled peach + raddichio salad and strawberries, basil and creme fraiche ice cream.

Pasta Making 101

with Dave Cann

Roll your sleeves up and make some seriously delicious and authentic handmade pasta from scratch.

Work together to make delicious squid-ink egg fettucine, hand rolled semolina pick and simple orecchiette. Pasta isn’t complete without a little sauce, Dave will show you three different sauces, one oil based, one tomato, and one creamy

This class is all about big flavours and perfect textures; getting your hands dirty and having a laugh.

Chinese Dumplings

Cindy's mother - a chef by trade - passed her passion for food down to Cindy and, in turn, she developed a love of exploring the art of cooking through improvisation, experimentation and, of course, sharing with family and friends.

Learn the art of the dumpling including making the skins, creating and seasoning meat and vegetable fillings, different techniques for filling, cooking and serving dumpling as well as preparing a traditional dumpling soup.

Better start practicing with your chopsticks. 

Homestyle French

While French is often seen as haute-cuisine, at its heart is simple techniques and favours...and plenty of butter...which you can easily replicate at home.

Delving into one Dave's passions, this class will cover recipes and dishes you will be able to impress guests or even just the family. Learn to cook some delicious caramelised onion tarts, the best roast chicken you've ever eaten as well as a fun and simple lemon verbena crème brûlée.
